About Project: Creatopia is a design proposal for Gold Goast’s innovative learning hub located on the Griffith university campus. Initially inspired by the native Tibouchina flower, the building connects to the landscape with hills emerging from the ground plane. The concept of merging inside and outside is then furthered with fully operable walls along the inner perimeter of the building. Protection from Queensland’s harsh sunlight is established via the use of North, North-East & North-West facing adjustable horizontal brise soleil and all-around fine screening protecting from glare, while adding atmospheric light filtering effect. South facing tubular skylights were implemented to direct diffused sunlight into the library and gallery interior. Those are to be decorated in Indigenous artworks to pay a tribute to the original owners of the land. The structure of the building is shown with combination of “x’’ beams holding the weight of the landscaped hills, straight beams and structural concrete slabs. The project submission consisted of booklet including weekly progress tasks including as sketches, progress models, sections and plans and final hero image poster and physical model. The physical model utilises natural, earthy materials to emphasises the contrast, yet compatibility of warm timber and raw materials such as concrete which were used on the actual building proposal.
